CafePress

On Demand — Chubbyartist on February 24, 2007 at 12:16 pm

Go to CafePressOpen a free CafePress shop, and you can create and sell 70+ different physical products with your designs. No upfront costs.

CafePress handles all production, order/payment processing, product fulfillment and customer service. You do the designs, select the product(s), set the price(s), send people to your CafePress “shop” to buy (or rely on trickle in traffic from their “Marketplace”), and if something does sell, you get paid the difference between your price(s) and CafePress’s cost per item!

The coolest part, I think — besides, of course, being able to spend your time and energy on doing what you like to do instead of all that “other” stuff involved in running an online shop and business — is that you don’t spend buck one for product or inventory until you actually do sell something.

What kind of products? Mugs, shirts, shorts, caps, bags, clocks, mousepads, coasters… you name it. Their selection is quite extensive (here, take a look). They even do prints (but personally, I prefer a different service for on demand prints of my work).

CafePress’s success has spawned a bunch of competitors, many I trust you’ll read about here, as soon as I can find someone who’s actually used the service, vouches for it, and not to mention willing to write about it.

In the meantime, give CafePress a look-see.
